Seicho is a journaling app that gives you feedback on how clearly you articulate your thoughts. This policy explains what the app collects, where it goes, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read, not to be skimmed past.
Seicho is made and operated by Anas Majumder, an individual developer ("we", "I"). For anything in this policy, contact anas.majumder@gmail.com.
Signing in uses Google Sign-In. From your Google account we receive and store your email address, and Google's authentication service additionally holds your display name, profile photo URL, and a Google account identifier. We do not receive your Google password and have no access to anything else in your Google account.
The text of every entry you save, whether typed or dictated, along with the date and time it was created and whether it came from typing or dictation.
Data the app derives from your entries: rubric scores across four writing dimensions (specificity, structure, voice, clarity), the inline comments generated for each entry, comparison notes when you compare two entries, and running aggregates used to detect writing habits you have grown out of.
When you dictate an entry, your device's built-in speech recognition captures audio and converts it to text. On iOS this is Apple's speech recognition service and on Android it is Google's; depending on your device and settings, that audio may be transmitted to and processed by Apple or Google under their own privacy policies. Seicho never receives, transmits, or stores the audio itself. Only the transcribed text reaches the app, and only if you then save the entry.
We do not use any analytics, advertising, attribution, or crash-reporting SDK. We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, health data, or advertising identifiers. We do not build behavioural profiles and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

If you are in the UK, EU, or another region with similar law, our legal basis is performance of a contract with you (providing the app you asked for) and, for keeping the service secure and functioning, our legitimate interests.
We use a small number of service providers. They process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
| Provider | What it handles | Policy |
|---|---|---|
| Google Firebase (Google LLC / Google Ireland Ltd) | Authentication, database storage of your entries and feedback, and the server code that generates feedback | firebase.google.com/support/privacy |
| Anthropic PBC | Receives your entry text via the Claude API in order to generate writing feedback and entry comparisons | anthropic.com/legal/privacy |
| Apple Inc. / Google LLC (on-device OS services) | Speech-to-text transcription of dictated entries | apple.com/legal/privacy · policies.google.com/privacy |
| Apple TestFlight (beta only) | Distributing test builds; Apple may collect installation and crash data and any feedback you submit through TestFlight | apple.com/legal/privacy |
Entry text sent to Anthropic is submitted under Anthropic's commercial API terms, which provide that inputs and outputs submitted through the API are not used to train their models.
Data is stored on Google Cloud infrastructure and may be processed in the United States and other countries where these providers operate. Where required, these transfers rely on the providers' standard contractual clauses.
Journal entries and their feedback are kept until you delete them or until your account is deleted. Deleting an entry in the app removes it permanently and it cannot be recovered. Account records are deleted when you request account deletion, as described below.
Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to object to or restrict processing, or to complain to your local data protection authority.
Your entries are stored in a per-user area of the database enforced by server-side security rules, so one signed-in user cannot read another's entries. Data is encrypted in transit, and encrypted at rest by our hosting provider. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Seicho is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
While the app is distributed for testing through TestFlight or Google Play testing, it is pre-release software. It may contain bugs, and features may change or be removed. We may contact testers at the email address associated with their account about the test itself.
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. If the change is significant, we will notify you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
